ninemsn flies with the A380

Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Sydney, Australia, Tuesday 28 October 2008:In a move that sees passengers never out of touch with what's happening at home, ninemsn is offering hourly updates on news via a link to ninemsn using an internet-style news service aboard the new Qantas Airbus A380.

ninemsn is beaming national and world news, entertainment, business, sport, health and technology content to the aircraft so that passengers can watch and listen to the programming on their personal screens.

ninemsn executive producer of news and current affairs, Andrew Hunter, said the collaboration between Qantas, ninemsn and Panasonic, which is supplying Qantas's inflight entertainment platform, to create the service for the inaugural flight began more than three years ago.

"The launch of the programming and updates to the new A380 brings us a new level of engagement for our content and we are looking forward to expanding the service as Qantas brings more of the A380s into its fleet," commented Hunter.

Hunter said the data feed to the aircraft was updated every hour, to ensure passengers are informed of the latest news.

Qantas expects to take delivery of three A380 aircraft by the end of this year and will have eight in service by the end of 2009.
