Sydney, Australia, Tuesday 24 March 2009: David Beckham has been awarded the dubious accolade of 'World's Gayest Straight Man' by Australia's leading online celebrity and entertainment destination, thefix.com.au in its inaugural Fix Awards. The 'fauxmo' football superstar narrowly beat Ian Thorpe, George Clooney, Chace Crawford and other well groomed nominees in the awards.
Wife Victoria needn't feel neglected, although she must be hungry! Weighing in at a mere 48kg, the skeletal Spice Girl slash fashion fixture has won the 'Give The Girl A Sandwich' award, pipping Nicole Richie, Mary Kate Olsen and other skinny nominees at the post (or should we say stick). The Beckhams are two of four celebrities to receive awards in the first round of recipients, with other Fix Awards going to Bronx Mowgli Wentz for 'Weirdest Celebrity Baby Name' and Vanessa Hudgens for 'Biggest Nude Scandal', following her saucy and suggestive photo leak.
The Fix Awards, coined 'The Oscars for the celeb-obsessed' and this year sponsored by Riva, will see eighteen of the best, worst, ugliest and craziest celebrities recognised and awarded over the next seven weeks. During this period, the Australian public will be able to determine which celebrities receive the ultimate Fix Awards - Biggest Tool and Biggest Tool-ette for 2009.
People can vote for the most deserving Tool and Tool-ette, from a choice of 50 Australian and international celebrity nominees, at fixawards.com.au. Each vote goes into a weekly draw to win $500 cash . The celebrity winners of the Biggest Tool and Biggest Tool-ette Fix Awards will be announced on Monday 4 May.
Other awards to be rolled out in the coming weeks include: 'The Benjamin Button Award' for celebrities who are aging backwards, 'Least Dressed Celeb' and the 'Sexiest Celebrity Cougar'.
