Sydney, Australia, Thursday 17th September 2009: They can laugh, cry, smile, yawn, yell, blink and wink and now, for the first time, ninemsn's entire collection of emoticons for Windows Live Messenger will be made available for anyone to download and share from a new website Emoticon World.
Ninemsn launches
Emoticon World today, featuring a catalogue containing hundreds of emoticons, backgrounds, display pictures and animations to use within Messenger for any mood or emotion. The emoticon packs come from all over the world, including Crazy Creatures from the United Kingdom, Sports Heroes from Singapore and Fashionistas from Italy.
Raphael Aquino-Jose, Windows Live Senior Product Manager said: "The first recorded emoticon of a smiley face, represented by a colon and closed-bracket [
: ) ] was sent more than 25 years ago and they have certainly come a long way since then. Emoticons today play sounds, are animated and can even be personalised allowing people to express themselves when words just aren't enough. The launch of Emoticon World means anyone can access our archive of emoticons for free and build on their existing collections to share them with friends via Messenger."
Each month, new emoticon packs will be added to the
Emoticon World library, continuously growing Australia's largest free collection of emoticons for anyone to access.
"More than 5.4 million Australians use Windows Live Messenger each month and send each other more than 55 billion messages a year, so those little smiley faces, frowns and hundreds of other characters are a very popular way of communicating!" Mr Aquino-Jose said.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Windows Live, which today is used by 330 million people worldwide in 59 countries and 36 languages.
